Node.js Backend Engineer
Design and build the APIs, data models, and integrations behind client products. You'll own services from schema design through monitoring, working with PostgreSQL, Node.js, and TypeScript.
What you'd be doing here
We need a backend engineer who thinks about data models before endpoints and about failure modes before happy paths. You'll design and build the services behind client products in fintech, healthcare, logistics, and education, which means the correctness of what you ship actually matters to someone's business.
Day to day, you'll work in TypeScript on Node.js, mostly against PostgreSQL, building REST APIs and the occasional queue-driven worker. You'll own your services end to end: schema migrations, business logic, integration tests, deployment, and the dashboards that tell you when something's wrong at 2 a.m. (though our on-call rotation is humane, and 2 a.m. pages are rare because we invest in preventing them).
You'll also work directly with clients. Our backend engineers explain their API designs to client-side developers and their trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, so the ability to write a clear README or Slack message is a core part of the job.
What you'll own
Design relational schemas and write the migrations that evolve them safely on live systems.
Build and document REST APIs in Node.js and TypeScript that other teams integrate against.
Implement third-party integrations: payment gateways, SMS and email providers, and client-side systems.
Write integration and unit tests, and keep them fast enough that the team actually runs them.
Set up and tune monitoring, logging, and alerting for the services you own.
Review pull requests and participate in architecture discussions across squads.
Investigate and fix production issues, then write up what happened and what changed.
Join client standups and explain technical decisions in plain language.
What we're looking for
3+ years of professional backend development with Node.js, including production TypeScript.
Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills: schema design, indexing, query analysis, and migrations.
Experience designing and versioning REST APIs consumed by teams you don't control.
Practical understanding of authentication, authorization, and common API security pitfalls.
Experience with automated testing at the unit and integration level.
Comfort with Git-based workflows, code review, and CI pipelines.
Bonus points, not blockers
If some of these describe you, mention it. If none do, apply anyway.
Experience with message queues such as BullMQ, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
Exposure to NestJS, Fastify, or building services beyond plain Express.
Familiarity with Docker and deploying to AWS or Azure.
Experience in a regulated domain such as payments or healthcare.
Tools you'll work with
Four steps, no surprises
We designed the process to respect your time and show you ours: every step mirrors how we actually work.
Application review
Apply through the form on this page. We read every application ourselves and reply within a week, including when the answer is no.
Technical interview
A conversation with senior engineers about systems you have built, decisions you made, and trade-offs you would make differently. No trick puzzles.
Practical exercise
A small, time-boxed task close to real project work, reviewed together like a normal code review. We evaluate how you think, communicate, and take feedback.
Culture conversation & offer
A final discussion with a delivery lead about how you like to work, followed by a clear written offer. The whole process typically takes two to three weeks.
